This Black Woman Created a Podcast Celebrating Entrepreneurs and Change-Makers Across the African Diaspora

What is Dear Diaspora and where did it originate from?

Dear Diaspora launched September 1, 2019 with the intent to celebrate the African Diaspora – its change-makers, entrepreneurs and innovators working to make our world a better one to live in. Since our launch, Dear Diaspora has earned over 2,500 downloads, with over 900 followers across all social media platforms.

“As I started to listen to more podcasts, I quickly noticed something missing. After getting my MBA, I was really interested in learning more about business but couldn’t seem to find any podcasts sharing the experiences of those doing business on the continent or working on projects that would benefit the continent. When listening to the stories of entrepreneurs on some of my favorite podcasts, I often couldn’t relate to or identify with the guests so I figured I’d just create what I wanted to hear. Africans on the continent and in the Diaspora are doing phenomenal work but it often goes unnoticed—Dear Diaspora shines a light on that work and amplifies it.”

Who is Nduulwa Kowa and what’s her background?

With a passion for changing the narrative surrounding the Continent, Zambian born Nduulwa Kowa is the creator and host of Dear Diaspora, a podcast celebrating entrepreneurs and change-makers across the African Diaspora. During the day, she works as the program manager for the Opportunity Hub (OHUB)‘s Campus program. She is leading the expansion and programming for OHUB. Campus, an initiative working to provide colleges and universities with exposure, knowledge, opportunities, connections and tools to effectively launch a technology and a 333startup ecosystem from the ground up.

Prior to joining OHUB, Nduulwa served as senior project coordinator at the UMKC Innovation Center. Before relocating to Kansas City, MO, she worked as marketing project coordinator at the Women’s Fund of Omaha, where she worked to implement innovative marketing strategies for the fund’s Adolescent Health Project. Her marketing and project management background include managing the Women’s Fund’s social media influencer program, the Women’s Fund’s 2019 summer internship program, and serving as the project manager and liaison for I Be Black Girl, an initiative funding grassroots organizations and businesses led by Black women and girls in Omaha. Nduulwa has a bachelor’s degree in international studies and an MBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, in addition to a CAPM certification from the Project Management Institute.
